August 4-6!WHAM, BAM! PUPPET SLAM!You’re walking down a dark alley, then suddenly, you’re hit from behind! WHAM, BAM! PUPPET SLAM! Your funny bone is broken by a furry little creature with a large shadow. Don’t worry though, soon you’re left sobbing from a poignant piece constructed entirely from foam and pantyhose! You’re confused, delirious, yet entertained. What could this be? It’s Asheville’s very own Puppet Slam! Short form adult puppetry, anything goes, as long as it Rocks! Five performances, this weekend only! Brought to you by the Asheville Puppetry Alliance. Get your details & tickets here.
Time to Cast your Votes!Voting is open in the Mountain Xpress’s annual Best of WNC poll, and we’ve had numerous people say that they are voting for us in such categories as Best Local Theatre Company, Best Cocktails, Best Chef, Best Local Original Production, and I know a number of people are voting for Ken for Best Bartender. Now’s the time to show your support! Click here to vote.
Magnetic ComedyWe’ve got your ha-ha. Nationally known comedian Tim Northern (you may have seen him headline at Diana Wortham Theatre a couple years back) will be here on the 16th, and as usual, on the last Tuesday of the month Mondy Carter, Tom Chalmers, Karen Stobbe and Josh Batenhorst will improv the night away, tickets for both events are on sale now at http://themagneticfield.us2.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=a20787cbba1aafd94fb82b795&id=829e34d473&e=40e931ebef.
The World Premiere of
The Last Laugh
Our next premiere will be The Last Laugh, a comedian’s tragedy by our artistic director Steven Samuels. The play centers around Chuck Wiles, the drug-obsessed genius behind a failing comedic theatre troupe. But then a large gift from a mysterious patron, rescues the company…if they can make a play out of the work of Charles Baudelaire. The Last Laugh will thrust audiences directly into the basement theatre world of New York in the late 90s, and it stars Tracey Johnston-Crum, Rodney Smith, and, in his return to the stage, the playwright himself, Steven Samuels. Previews are August 11 and 12, or join the cast and crew for our opening night gala on August 13th, with champagne and desserts on us after the show! PLUS we’ve added Wednesday evening performances at 7:30pm in lieu of our normal late-night 10pm shows. Click here to get your tickets now!
NEW COCKTAIL MENU
…Coming Soon!We know how much you love Ken Klehm’s quirky, sometimes strange, and always delicious concoctions, but we’ve gotten really interested in classic and forgotten cocktails lately, so we’ve gotten some new spirits in, and in the next couple of weeks you’ll see our revamped cocktail list, with some exciting cocktails that have been around for a long time, but you may not have heard of (the Monkey Gland?), so come have a drink with us!
There’s More?!?!You betcha. And really, we’re just getting wound up. Tickets are about to go on sale for Kerfuffle, a one-man vaudeville experience with Holiday Childress in September, and Shangri-La, a comedy by Lucia Del Vecchio set in a retirement trailer park in Florida is right around the corner. See you soon!
