You will enjoy this one…

This is a must-see story!!

Subject: The most moving and beautiful video – brought tears to my eyes.

Kandi in Arizona:

Great if you are in need of a laugh!

“Don’t go rafting without a Baptist in the boat!”

No Baptists were harmed in the making of this clip, but a couple of Methodists (Jeanne and Left Brain) almost died! 🙂

Cathy in Pennsylvania:

This is a video from the Occupy DC rally that we [Buxmont Coalition for Peace Coalition] participated in on Thursday October 6. Around forty seconds into the video you can see CFPA members Bill Deckhart, Sue Deckhart, Ken Johnson and me as we marched to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Sue Deckhart then held the letter D in the GREEDY sign as we stood outside the C of C and demanded to know where the jobs are. CFPA member Debbie Kavanaugh was also with us in Washington that day and videotaped some of the rally.

Pat in Pennsylvania [on same topic]:

Wow!~! learning to play a guitar left handed is an accomplishment!!!

Pat also added:

There is a chain of restuarants called Vinnies…____________ ( I forget the rest of the name) Is yours a chain restaurant or just a single owned place? There was one in Bala Cynwyd and one in Hartford Conn that I went too. It was good.

Gosh.. It seems there must be millions of restaurants in the Asheville area? Is owning a restaurant like a second career down there for lots of people? Esp around here Restaurants are a tough business.. But it seems the ones in your area area doing great?

Good comments.. I get calls for something like Bucks county police or something like that..and other so called “police” organizations Heard some or all of them were quasi scams like you mentioned???

Book review.. Not sure if you heard but Friendly’s is bankrupt and is closing locations and selling the business….??

Area those Noble peace prize winners and items real or just a fake?

Don’t think this Vinnie’s is part of a chain. And yes, there are a lot of restaurants in the Asheville are; after all, it is a big tourism site. Some few eateries do well. Some others open up, then close after a short period of time and another place opens up shortly thereafter in the same locale.

Most, if not all, calls you get from a police organization that is seeking to raise funds are bogus.

As for those Noble peace prize winners, check the post again. The picture contained a Noble prize winner. The person who won the prize did not win the Noble prize, nor did any of the others that were mentioned. They all did research that was “out there” . . . but nevertheless both fun and interesting.

Angela in Pennsylvania, citing correspondence she received from Anita Jansen–an author:

Thank you for your nice note. The book is available on-line. The website is

My husband was diagnosed with celiac disease over 10 years ago, and the book is a labor of love. I wrote it to help him as well as others.

The book took me over 10 years to write because I thoroughly researched celiac disease and tested and retested all of the recipes to be sure everything worked and tasted like the real thing. I probably worked on some recipes more than 50 times to get them right. The book is hardcover and costs $35 on-line with free shipping and it is a bargain considering the amount of research and work put into it and the amount of recipes it contains.

There are over 700 recipes (about 1,000 if you include variations), and over 120 pages of useful information such as medical information (in easy to understand terminology), food lists, ingredients lists, lists of gluten-free foods from grocery stores, methods of eating out and traveling, etc. I felt it was important for people to understand why they needed the diet (such as complications they could get) as well as how to follow it. Most doctors diagnose people and then don’t give any information on what to do. Most cookbooks tell people to use gluten-free ingredients but don’t tell them what to buy. I include lists of products with the company websites and phone numbers. Most recipes are easy because I realized that most people with celiac disease probably never cooked before. I’ve created recipes for just about every food you could ever want to have.

The book weighs over 4 lbs and is 8 ½ x 11”. People tell me it has been a Godsend to them, and many tell me that it is a book that they refer to daily. I’m so happy to hear that your cousin Hope loves the book!

Tim in North Carolina:

My aging parents are the trusting and benevolent sort, thus deluged with charitable solicitations. One can research the often small percentage of those contributions which reach the intended cause, “professional fundraising” being a “business” as it is.

I printed copies of the attached checklist (see below for link) for my parents. A reputable charity or foundation should have no qualms in answering a few questions when soliciting donations. Those “professional solicitors” are required to be licensed by the state.

Glenn in Pennsylvania (with a REQUEST FOR HELP):

Try the link below. I think the “public” needs to go through facebook first to Reader’s Digest, then “like” the page. Then, I had to like the story contest “Your Life”.

Then, if you are still getting results and haven’t run for a second cup of coffee, plug in “Glenn Burd” in the search and click on the story “Just the boys”. This should allow you to see my page, and vote.

Mission Healthcare Foundation is listed on the Pink Well ballot but deadline is October 15th

Somehow the Pink Well folks dropped the ball and didn’t let us know we were in the running for this grant … looks like we can still gain some votes if we send the ballot around quickly today. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I just cast my 10 votes for Mission. Looks like we can do it every day until the voting officially ends. It’s my impression that this round of voting is to determine the top 10 finalists and the Ellen DeGeneres Award winner.

Linda in Asheville:

More info on The Corporation – documentary I really liked

WINNER OF 26 INTERNATIONAL AWARDS! 10 Audience Choice Awards including the 2004 Sundance Film Festival.

Provoking, witty, stylish and sweepingly informative, THE CORPORATION explores the nature and spectacular rise of the dominant institution of our time. Part film and part movement, The Corporation is transforming audiences and dazzling critics with its insightful and compelling analysis. Taking its status as a legal “person” to the logical conclusion, the film puts the corporation on the psychiatrist’s couch to ask “What kind of person is it?” The Corporation includes interviews with 40 corporate insiders and critics – including Noam Chomsky, Naomi Klein, Milton Friedman, Howard Zinn, Vandana Shiva and Michael Moore – plus true confessions, case studies and strategies for change.

Check out this website. There’s a whole movement afoot now. Let me know what you think.

Will in North Carolina:

[about COURAGEOUS, the movie]

Hey, please see below. It is about a movie Monica and I went to see today.
This movie is a must see for ALL dads!!

You know I do not send or forward many emails. In fact, it may be just my
second one this year. However, this is too important for me to be remiss
and not bring as much attention to this movie as possible. It is a 2 hr
movie and does have a little action and humor but most importantly speaks to
the critical role dads have in our children’s life, especially in their
developing years. We need to lead in a God honoring way. Bottom line, the
statistics are staggering of the downfall of children who do not have a dad
as a role model or in an active parenting role.

I challenge you to go see the movie, share it with others and lets tackle
this problem head on. Let’s make a difference!
