Coming on October 21…ROCK SABER! by Julian Vorus

Featuring the epic metal failure The Old Grey Goose Is Dead!

Starring Julian Vorus as Heyman.
Steve Shell as Kirk.
John Crutchfield as Babe.
Erik Moellering as Thomas.
Ryan Madden and Jason Williams as Leeeeeeeeeee.
Jim Julien as Max, the owner of The Suppositorium.
Lucia Del Vecchio as Liddy.
Chall Gray as Dickhead.
And Darren Marshall as Big Paul.

Directed by Chall Gray

Julian Vorus’ dark, twisted, hilarious, obscene and thoroughly vile script ROCK SABER will assault Asheville audiences with its world premiere. After beginning as a late-night skit performed to rowdy drunken fans, it headlined the 2009 Asheville Fringe Festival, playing to capacity crowds at the Bebe Theatre (all of whom were required to sign an indemnity waiver before seeing the show, releasing ROCK SABER from responsibility for any damage, mental or physical, to their persons).

Now it returns.

As disturbing as the performance poetry for which he is infamous, ROCK SABER will burn Julian Vorus’ name, characters, and twisted imagination into the skulls of the brave audience members who come see this limited engagement.

Ten shows only. No extensions possible. Late night shows only. All tickets $12. Fridays and Saturdays at 10:00 p.m., October 21-November 19

“[Julian Vorus’ work is not for] the faint of heart, those with sensitive stomachs, low gross-out tolerance levels or an aversion to violent screaming” —Mountain Xpress

ROCK SABER! Written by Julian Vorus. Directed by Chall Gray. Lighting Design by Ryan Madden. Scenic Design by Annette Griffin. Sound Design by Ken Klehm. Board Operation by Mary Castellaneta. Presented, with some apprehension, by The Magnetic Theatre.

The Magnetic Missive

brought to you by The Magnetic Field

October 2011The leaves are falling all around, and they’re almost as pretty as some of the dishes that Chefs Liam Luttrell-Rowland and Jason Rowland are sending out of the kitchen. Did you have the recent Triggerfish Special? Or the new Seasonal Bowl–with butternut squash ravioli? We’ve also got a little something for everyone coming onto the stage in the next few weeks, so read on!

Beginning this weekend we’re excited to present the world premiere of Julian Vorus’s infamous Rock Saber. Talked about around town for years, and seen in bits and pieces in various drunken displays at the Bebe Theatre, NC Stage and here at The Magnetic Field, let us say up front: this show isn’t for everyone. It’s raunchy. It’s vile. It will likely offend you if you are capable of being offended. Step into Vorus’ mind for a couple of hours, if you dare. October 21-November 19. Friday and Saturday nights–late shows only. Find out more and get your tickets here!

Magnetic Music presents
Dehlia LowFor three weeks straight in November Dehlia Low will be bringing you their “appalachicana” musical stylings, which have made them one of the best known groups in WNC. The Nashville Scene says: “The group has taken off like a skyrocket…and deservedly so: in a musical world that doesn’t always treasure creativity, Dehlia Low has staked out a good piece of ground all its own.” Wednesdays, November 2, 9 and 16. Advance tickets available now!

Coming Soon…Magnetic Midnight is going strong (how many sellouts in a row?–we can’t even remember). Come see what the buzz is about. And make your plans now for the The 28th Annual Bernstein Family Christmas Spectacular! Previews begin December 2nd! Tickets will go on sale soon! Check our website often to get yours early. Come see some of your favorite skits from last time, some new ones, and maybe even meet a new family member!

Brief EncountersCall us crazy (it may be true), but starting next weekend you can see not one, not two, but SIX original productions on the Magnetic stage! That’s right. Brief Encounters: New Magnetic Voices 2011 is the first in what will be an annual event of original short plays showcasing fresh, local talent. Brief Encounters features 5 wildly-diverse plays ranging from realistic comedy to abstract absurdism. Brief Encounters runs Oct 27th through November 19th. Click here for tickets and more information about the plays! And remember to ask our bartenders about the special cocktail menu they’re creating just for the show!
So that accounts for 5 original plays, what about the sixth, you ask? Well, Brief Encounters is running in repertory with Rock Saber! So come out and see 5 great short plays at 7:30 and stay for Rock Saber at 10!

Magnetic ComedyWe’re really excited about our upcoming comedy shows, including national star Rory Scovel (see his recent appearance on Conan here) on November 8th. We also have Herbie Gill returning to our stage on November 1st for an encore performance, and a special Thanksgiving show from Reasonably Priced Babies on November 24th! Get tickets here.

That’s all for now. Don’t forget, we’re now open Monday through Saturday beginning at 3pm–come on by for some fabulous food, drinks, and shows!
