(2) The Mars Hill College Theatre Arts Department is announcing its 3rd production of the academic year, SCAPINO! By Frank Dunlop and Jim Dale. February 23-26, 2012.
SCAPINO! Is a comedy of the Commedia dell’arte. Love has struck in Naples, Italy, just at the most amusing moment! Two young men, Ottavio and Leandro, are left, by their miserly fathers, Argante and Geronte in the care of two not-so-attentive servants, Sylvestro and Scapino. Of course both young fellows fall in love with young women totally incompatible with their fathers’ plans for an arranged marriage! Upon the fathers’ return, all hopes, eyes, and gratuitous culinary items are directed toward Scapino, a master of trickery and cunning, to solve the mess and put everything back to rights again. The show is set on the dock where an Italian restaurant opens. Singing and dancing waiters and waitresses set the scene.
Toni LaPonte plays the title role. And Chandler Smith, Peyton Lawerence and Sarah Richardson are the young female lovers.
Performances take place in Owen Theatre on the campus of Mars Hill College in Mars Hill, NC this coming Thursday through Saturday (Feb. 23-25) at 7:30 p.m. and on a matinee on Sunday the 26th at 2:30 p.m.

“The Story of My Life” tells the story of two childhood friends and how their friendship profoundly defined their lives. Thomas Weaver is a best-selling, award-winning author. Alvin Kelby was his best friend for thirty years. But time can test the bonds of friendship, and when it does, Thomas calls on the only resource he has – his stories of Alvin – to learn where things went wrong. A richly melodic musical, “The Story of My Life” is a soaring tribute to the power of friendship and the people who change our lives forever.
