BLAINESWORLD #838

Section 2, part 2
(2) Catherine O. in MA: Thanks Blaine-jokes are the best!!!
(3) Robin S. in PA: Ben Afleck’s new film, Argo, is a must-see. Be prepared to be disturbed.
(4) Natalie K. in PA: Have you seen Argo yet?  We really liked it.  Also watched “The Way” with Martin Sheen on Netflix and “Dark Passage” with Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall on TCM.  Taped it a while ago — finally got to watching it.  Liked it a lot.
(5) Annemarie E. in NJ: Hi all – I read this article today (apparently it’s been doing the rounds of popular news sites) and was surprised that Verizon is actually collecting all kinds of information on how I use my phone.  Read the article linked here http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=verizon-draws-fire-for-monitoring-a-2012-10   and if you want to Opt Out – simply click on “opt out” at the end of the 5th paragraph.  After signing in to your account you’ll see three separate opt out areas you’ll want to check.

I’m sending this to everyone I know who may have Verizon.  I apologize if you do not use Verizon and are getting this, but you may know someone you want to forward this to.  Of course if you are OK with them monitoring your usage just ignore this.

(6) Terry V. in NC: Thanks for your e-newsletters. They are a delightful brak from the stress of the campaign trail.
Note: Terry Van Duym is a candidate for Buncombe County Commissioner. I have been very impressed by her, and I do believe that she would be worthy of your vote.
(7) Barbara H. in PA (commenting on a computer tip in BLAINESWORLD #834 about what to do if you get a call from Windows Technical Support):Oh, if you can possibly spare the time (or are a multi-tasker), don’t hang up on these honest and hard-working people! My Personal Best has been 23 minutes until they got so frustrated THEY ACTUALLY HUNG UP ON ME!!!. How excessively rude!

I spent close to 10 minutes with one particular gentleman who was (initially) very patient with me when I kept insisting I didn’t know what he meant by clicking “start” on my desktop…because there isn’t anything on my desktop except my computer. And I don’t need to start that because it’s already on. Besides, it has an on/off button. The TV has the clicker; should I click to start the TV?

When asked for the serial number I either tell them I can’t find the one on the computer, would one from a box be OK–then I give them the serial number from the box that once held the cable converter (or I tell them my cereal number is Fiber One).

These are the only nuisance calls that leave me smiling and THEM with the ulcer and the headache. Strangely, though, I haven’t gotten any calls in a couple of months.
